What “Custom Orthotics” Means At Floyd Brace

Orthotics are prescription-made braces that align, protect, or assist movement anywhere in the body. We truly treat from head to toe. That means cranial remolding helmets for infants, neck and spinal braces, arm and hand supports, and hip, knee, ankle, and foot devices. Each device is designed around your unique measurements, goals, and lifestyle.

What custom orthotics can do for you:

  • Reduce pain and strain by improving alignment

  • Improve balance and stability for safer movement

  • Protect skin and relieve pressure over sensitive areas

  • Restore function for daily life, school, work, or sports

Head and Neck Support

Cranial Remodeling Helmets for Babies

If your baby develops a flat spot or a noticeable head shape difference, gentle guidance can help. The ideal timeline is to see your pediatrician around three months when your baby has a bit of head control. If referred to us between three and six months, we can take advantage of a prime growth stage when a significant amount of development occurs. Earlier starts often mean shorter treatment times. Later starts, after 6 months old, can still produce great results, though your baby may need to wear the helmet longer. We use soft scanning and family-centered education to keep your child comfortable throughout the process.

Cervical and CTLSO Bracing

When extra support is needed from the neck to the pelvis, we provide cervical and cervico-thoraco-lumbo-sacral orthoses. These braces help protect healing tissues, control motion, and reduce pain during daily activities. Our focus is a secure fit, skin protection, and clear guidance for home use.

Neck Braces and Support

Neck braces and collars provide gentle to firm support for the neck and upper back. Depending on your physician’s plan, we may use a soft cervical collar for short-term comfort or a more rigid cervical collar to limit motion while tissues heal. Each is sized and padded to your measurements, with clear guidance on wear time, skin checks, and how to put it on and take it off so daily life stays comfortable.

Spine and Back Bracing

Scoliosis Bracing

Custom spinal orthoses are used to help improve back sway and prevent further curve progression for those with scoliosis. Fit and follow ups matter. We schedule regular check-ins to keep the brace comfortable and effective as you grow or your activity changes.

Osteoporosis and Compression Fractures

Osteoporosis can often lead to compression fractures in the spine. A lightweight back brace supports healing by limiting painful motion, especially forward bending, and encouraging safer posture while you stand and walk. This can reduce strain on the injured vertebrae and ease muscle fatigue so daily activities feel more comfortable. We custom fit the brace to your measurements, add padding where needed, and review a clear wear schedule, skin checks, and simple steps to put it on and take it off. As healing progresses, we adjust the fit and taper the plan in partnership with your physician.

Post-injury and Post-surgical Support

After injury or surgery, targeted stabilization protects healing while you return to gentle activity. Your plan is personalized to the goals you set with your care team.

Upper Extremity Orthotics

Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist, and Hand

From nerve injuries to repetitive strain or post-surgical protection, upper extremity braces are designed to support weak or healing muscles and guide safe motion. We balance support with the function you need to dress, cook, type, and work with confidence.

Lower Extremity Orthotics

AFOs and SAFOs

Ankle-foot orthoses stabilize the ankle and foot for safer walking, improved toe clearance, and reduced fatigue. They are helpful for foot drop, hypermobile feet, and certain neuromuscular conditions. Adults recovering from strokes often need a bit of support as they regain walking confidence, and a full contact foot orthoses can help. For kids with hypermobile feet, custom SAFOs or AFOs can make walking and running safer. Children (and adults, too!) can even personalize the look of their brace so style meets function.

KAFOs and HKAFOs

Knee-ankle-foot and hip-knee-ankle-foot orthoses provide multi-joint stability when more support is needed, often after a stroke or for pediatric conditions. These can be a lot of brace, so we coach families and patients on daily routines, transfers, and skin care so life stays manageable.

Knee Bracing

From ligament protection to offloading support, we match the brace to your daily activities, whether that is walking the neighborhood, working a full shift, or returning to light exercise.

Pediatric Bracing, Compassionate by Design

Conditions We Often Support

Many children we see are living with spina bifida, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular differences, or orthopedic conditions. We scan and fit braces built specifically to support each child’s area of weakness so they can participate in life, school and play with greater ease.

Growing With Your Child

Kids grow quickly. We plan regular check-ins for adjustments and educate families so caregivers feel confident at home, school, and therapy. As your child is outgrowing a device altogether, a visit to your physician for an evaluation will be necessary in order to qualify for a new device.

Orthotics for Adults and Seniors

Stroke Recovery

Custom bracing can improve stability and safer movement patterns during rehabilitation. Depending on your needs, that may include AFOs, KAFOs, or HKAFOs. We provide hands-on training for donning and doffing, skin checks, and home routines.

Hip and Back Support

For osteoporosis, compression fractures, trauma, or recovery from hip dislocations, we fit supportive hip and spinal braces that protect healing areas while you stay as active as is safe for your plan of care.

Work and Daily Life

If you stand, lift, or repeat tasks throughout the day, the right brace can reduce strain so you can keep doing what matters.

How Custom Orthotics Are Made At Floyd Brace

1) Evaluation
We start with your story. Your clinician learns your goals, reviews history, and performs a movement and fit assessment.

2) Scanning and Impressions
We take precise measurements and a digital scan or cast to capture your unique shape. This accuracy is what makes custom truly custom.

3) Device Design and Materials
Your brace is created to a medical prescription. Materials may include plastics, foams, textiles, and specialty components. We select the combination that matches your condition and activity level so life does not miss a beat.

4) Fitting and Education
We fine-tune fit and comfort, review wear time, shoe pairing when relevant, and teach easy ways to put the device on and take it off. You leave knowing exactly what to expect.

5) Follow Up and Adjustments
As your needs change, your brace should change with you. We schedule follow ups and make quick adjustments so you keep moving forward.
